Our Approach & Services
At Progress Place we believe that recovery from mental illness is possible when it involves the individual in a community – one that offers hope, respect, and opportunities for personal development.
Progress Place is a recovery centre for people living with mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar, Depression and Anxiety. Combining a comprehensive network of services that includes employment, education, recreation and housing, our innovative approach to psychosocial rehabilitation is progressive and world-renowned. EmploymentProgress Place provides the opportunity for Members to transition smoothly into the workplace to become confident and contributing members of their community.
|
Transitional Employment Program At Progress Place we provide those with mental illness a smooth transition into the workplace. We believe that, given the right environment, people with mental illness can become productive, contributing citizens. When members first come to Progress Place they often have an uneven work history, with gaps in their employment because their lives were interrupted by mental illness. We help members to secure jobs, train them and guarantee to the employer that the job will be done satisfactorily each day. Collaborating with partners in the business community, Progress Place is able to give people living with mental illness the chance to work in the competitive job market, receive the support they need to stay on the job, get paid a competitive wage and ultimately improve their self-confidence. Group Employment Program Our Group Employment program offers members the opportunity to work together with a group of peers and staff. Independent Employment Independent Employment provides members permanent employment and ongoing support. How Can I Get Involved? Interested in becoming a Progress Place employer? What We Offer at Progress Place The Warm Line is a confidential and anonymous service for adults living in the GTA and Peel Region in need of a friend with an empathetic ear. It is operated by peers who have experienced loneliness, isolation and anxiety. They are people who will really listen. As partners in recovery, we created the first program in Canada to involve peer support telephone, online chat, and text messaging service. Receiving over 9,000 calls per year, the Warm Line offers support 7 days a week from 3 pm to midnight, a time when most other community mental health services are closed. Next time you feel lonely, isolated or anxious, place a call, text or email a peer. HousingOpen to all Progress Place members, our Supported Housing program provides access to safe, affordable bachelor and one-bedroom accommodation in close proximity to the Clubhouse.
|
What We Offer at Progress Place
Recognizing that a lack of access to stable housing is one of the most insurmountable barriers faced by people living with mental illness, Progress Place has offered supported housing to its members since 1983. Because the accommodations we offer are within walking distance or a short transit ride to Progress Place, members benefit from access to nutritious meals, recreation programs and other Clubhouse activities. Members indicate that this continuum of service is an invaluable resource that both compliments and facilitates their independent living situation. Our evaluation data from the past 27 years has shown that increases in self-esteem and quality of life, and a reduction in hospital re-admission rates can be attributed to the supported housing services available at Progress Place. We extended this program in 199 by launching the Homeless Housing Initiative in partnership with St. Michael's Hospital. People can apply through The Access Point website or by calling The Access Point at (416) 640-1934. How Can I Get Involved?
